Event Description
The second SPINE BOOT CAMP was conducted at Bolgatty Palace and Island resorts in Kochi, Kerala, from 30 March to 1 April 2018. Although we as surgeons aim for precision and safety while performing spine surgery, significant adverse events and complications happen, some of which are preventable. The spine boot camp focused on providing a controlled platform where medical professionals can learn to avoid mistakes and have an alternative option when tools or equipment fail. The boot camp added value by filling in the "gaps" that may exist in the knowledge that is not always attained during meetings, conferences, CME programs and cadaver or live surgery courses.
29 Ortho and Neurosurgeons attended the course. We had an additional half day course for 35 nursing staff and the paramedical theatre technicians who were taught to maintain equipment, set up the theatre and to communicate and interact with doctors. This course was a unique one and we had excellent feedback the second time as well.
