International Spine Academy (iSpine), in association with Kauvery Hospital, conducted the 18th International Spine and Spinal Injuries Conference for the 1st time in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, from the 5th (Friday) to 7th (Sunday) October 2018. On 5 October, workshops for medical and paramedical delegates were conducted. The main conference was held on the 6th and 7th October, all at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Chennai, India.

Tamil Nadu Governor, Honourable Thiru Banwarilal Purohit was the Chief Guest and he also inaugurated the conference. Ms Shruthi Hassan, Actor and Singer, talked about the importance of safety and awareness of Spinal Cord Injury during an interactive session. She also unveiled the Rehabilitation Centre concept for Chennai.

There is a strong need to disseminate information about recent advances in the management of SCI management. "Spinal Cord Society" organizes the "International Spine and Spinal Injuries Conference" (ISSICON) each year to encourage research and spread awareness. The program was designed to suit all the doctors practising spine surgery, rehabilitation physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, assistive technology, orthotic experts and all allied specialists involved in the care of spinal cord injury.
